Common Questions
Is this the official CMS calculator?
This uses the exact same formula as the official CMS calculator on GOV.UK. For an official decision, use
GOV.UK's calculator.
What counts as gross income?
Total income before tax and NI — salary, bonuses, overtime, pension income, and most taxable benefits. The CMS may also consider assets and lifestyle.
What if income is over £156,000?
That's the Basic Plus rate. The first £156,000 is at the standard rate; above that goes through a separate assessment. Courts can also top up maintenance for very high earners.
How do shared care nights affect payments?
If the paying parent has the child 52+ nights/year: 1/7th reduction at 52–103, 2/7th at 104–155, 3/7th at 156–174, and 50% + £7/week deduction at 175+ nights.
